This month folks really delivered some great work! Nice to see such a broad range of materials and approach: collage, sculpture, ceramics, embroidery, typography, block prints, and more! I hope you enjoy these as much as I enjoyed seeing them roll in...

Sidenote: Artist statements (un/serious or otherwise) are always welcome.

Cocytus Study No. 2 [Above]
In this work, the artist interrogates the violence inherent in transformation. Each gouge mark represents a single moment of focused intention imposed upon a once-living material. The wood does not consent to becoming art. It simply becomes it. The resulting topography evokes the eternal river of lamentation, rendered permanent in a medium that itself was once permanent, before the artist decided otherwise. The bark edge remains intact as a reminder that wildness is always present at the margins of order, even when order has been very painstakingly applied, one oval at a time, for many hours.

Cocytus Study No. 3 [Above]
Where Study No. 2 demanded permanence, Study No. 3 insists on proliferation. Through the ancient democratizing act of printmaking, lamentation is no longer singular — it multiplies. Each impression is both identical and unrepeatable, much like suffering itself. The Prussian blue was chosen for its historical associations with pigment made from iron and prussiate, and also because it looked good. The artist invites the viewer to sit with the tension between the infinite and the finite, the river and its banks, the carved and the printed, the enemy and their tears.
